As Kappa Alpha Psi Conclave 2013 Descends on Houston, What Would Don Lemon, Bill O'Reilly and Al Sharpton Think of Its 'Kappa League' Mentoring Program?

I think Don Lemon, Bill O'Reilly and Rev. Al Sharpton would all agree that we need more programs like the "Kappa League" to ensure the educational success of young black men. Doing so will increase the level of economic success of society, as a whole. What do you think?

Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc. is a male, college-based, African American organization over 100 years old. The Kappas will hold their 2013 Conclave in Houston, Texas from August 6, 2013 until August 11, 2013. Yes, the ladies are excited to see a city full of educated and successful black men converge, but the word is that this is not just an opportunity to partake in eye candy. According to the Kappas current (Houston-based) Grand Polemarch, William Randy Bates, Jr., these distinguished men will be busy engaging in service-oriented activities, including but not limited to hosting a job fair and building a Habitat for Humanity House.

In anticipation of the festivities, a few of Houston's local Kappa members, led by Kappa, Derek Greene, stopped by Wheeler Avenue Baptist today with a group of inductees from Houston-area high schools. The young men are mentored by current Kappa members. After being inducted, the young men will become members of the "Kappa League." In the midst of all of the negative things descriptions of young black males, it is very promising to see distinguished black men nurture the promise of the future by modeling positive goal-making, attire, communication skills, morals and social skills.

Over the past few weeks, Don Lemon of CNN, Bill O'Reilly of Fox News and Rev. Al Sharpton of MSNBC have debated whether the disintegration of the African-American family and sagging pants have caused young black men to suffer lower educational success and higher drug and gang involvement. See Black Talk Radio Talks Back to CNN's Don Lemon's "No Talking Points". I think Don Lemon, Bill O'Reilly and Rev. Al Sharpton would all agree that we need more programs like the "Kappa League" to ensure the educational success of young black men.
