7 Ways to Tap Into Your Creativity

Not that long ago I was at a conference and someone told me they couldn't wait to see what I will create next.

And I remember thinking: "What the hell are they talking about? I'm not creative."

It was with that narrow view of creativity that I cornered myself into a very limited box, and at the same time had taken for granted every single thing I had ever created. There was one lesson I was missing that I eventually learned: I am creative, I was just too scared to own it and cultivate it.

Creativity takes courage. When we reconnect with our creativity we reconnect with who we were made to be.

Ready to reconnect with your creativity? Here are seven ways to get you there.

1. Know What is Creative
Creativity isn't only a painting or a song. Creativity is broad and encompasses many things, ranging from a home-cooked meal to a well decorated room, to creating a baby (does it get anymore creative than that?), to your wardrobe, to the life you have created up to now with your thoughts. The creative realm is far greater than the masterpieces, it is also found in the details.

2. Act on Your Creative Impulses
It's easy to dismiss the urges we get to create. Sometimes it feels like a waste of time, but it's not. Our creativity is our divine nature. When we act on our creative impulses we recognize our true self. Unlocking more of who we are leads us to our greatest purpose.

3. Don't Compare
The fastest way to squash any creativity is to compare yourself to others. Comparison contaminates what's really there. Be true to you and acknowledge your gifts without comparing them.

4. Allocate Time
Stop watching TV or playing Candy Crush. One of the biggest reasons people give for not creating is time. Don't let time be your reason. Make time.

5. Recognize and Appreciate What You've Already Created
Look around you and recognize what you've already done. Don't take it for granted if you've created a better world for yourself to live in, or a safer place, or a more loving place. Appreciate all you've done, the progress you've made. When we get to the point of appreciation we validate our own creativity, which opens us up to more.

6. Play!
Have more fun with life. Seriousness does not stimulate creativity as well as fun can. When we laugh and play we allow our hearts to swell and grow, and that's where our creative nature resides. Make having fun a priority.

7. Get Outside
Nature stimulates creativity. Really take in the world you live in and the diverse plants and animals we share it with. You don't even have to go very far. Start with your own back yard.

Trust your creative nature and know that you were born to create. When we create we become more alive.

I would love to hear what you plan on creating or what you feel inspired to do. Please leave your comments below.

As always, share if you dig it.
