84% of Philly Votes to Throw Santorum Out of Office; Philly Inquirer Responds By Giving Santorum A Regular Column

What happens if you are a right-wing lunatic who lives in Virginia and who 84 percent of a major Pennsylvania city's population just voted to throw out of office? Well, if Philadelphia happens to be that major city and you happen to be ex-Pennsylvania Sen. Rick Santorum who has long resided in Virginia, you are potentially rewarded with a prominent opinion column in the Philadelphia's largest paper.

If the newspapers are wondering why their circulations are dropping, here's something to remember: when more than 4 out of 5 voters in your city go to the polls to say they never want to see someone who doesn't live in your state again, it may not be the best idea for your newspaper to respond by entering negotiations to donate regular op-ed page real estate to that same Virginia resident. That displays what one might call "disconnection" from the desires of your audience - a not so uncommon criticism of the media.
