"What you're supposed to do when you don't like a thing is change it.
If you can't change it, change the way you think about it. Don't complain." -- Maya Angelo
Have you ever known a chronic complainer? The danger is that the universe takes what we focus our energy on and expands our experience of it; the more one complains about something the more one will draw to them things to complain about. The practice is to be mindful that with clarity comes choice; we can put whatever we are tempted to complain about into one of two categories: Either it's an issue we can do something about -- and therefore should -- or, it's beyond our control and should be released. Whenever we chronically complain about the same thing we are granting it permission to remain unchanged in our experience. As Angelo inferred, if you can't change it, at least change the way you think about it; and therein lies your power.
The next time you catch yourself complaining, pause, breathe, and seek a moment of clarity. If you are clear it is beyond the sphere of your influence let it go -- if not, get to work! At the end of the day you'll be a much happier camper and so will those around you -- and that's a good thing.
