4 Clever Tips for Making a Ceiling Seem Higher

Foolproof tricks that will maximize a small space.

1. Paint the Trim.
A 3" band of paint in a contrasting color will delineate the walls from the ceiling. This will make a difference.

2. Avoid Overhead Lights.
Rather than casting an inconsistent light, use wall sconces.

3. Remove Picture Rails.
Picture molding tends to lower the apparent wall height. If you must have it, keep it the same color as the wall.

4. Raise Curtains.
Mount drapery androds as close to the ceiling as possible, and stick to light wall colors.
