Big news for the blogosphere, and, really, for politics as a whole: Hillary Clinton has hired Peter Daou as her "blog advisor" to assist with her communication and engagement with the netroots. On his Salon blog, "The Daou Report," Daou writes of "closing the triangle" of the MSM, the political establishment, and the blogosphere. While he limits his mission to "aiding Senator Clinton's re-election efforts this November," his work as blog guru for the Kerry/Edwards ticket in 2004 would obviously be useful for Clinton in her anticipated 2008 presidential run (more on that point from Marty Kaplan).
Clinton may be the front-runner in the polls, but has not been widely supported in the liberal blogosphere as potential Democratic rivals John Kerry and Russ Feingold have generated momentum in popular left-leaning blogs for their position on Iraq (not to mention the Jerome Armstrong-supported Mark Warner). Daou joins the Clinton campaign only four days after Markos Moulitsas of DailyKos reported that Sen. Clinton had not "reached out" to the netroots; this is certainly a step in that direction.
