    The fat lady sings soprano at HBO: HBO Chairman and CEO Chris Albrecht has resigned his position at HBO after being arrested three days ago for assaulting his girlfriend in Las Vegas. Nikki Finke details previous incidents involving Albrecht and female employees and says "the inside jockeying to succeed Albrecht" has already begun . [NYT, Deadline Hollywood]

  • Joost gets a boost: Internet TV start-up Joost.com has secured $45 million in backing from two venture capital firms as well as CBS and Viacom. Meanwhile, NBC and News Corp. also have an as-yet-unnamed joint internet TV deal. Our show idea: a celebrity death showdown between Sumner Redstone and Rupert Murdoch (our money's on Rupe).   • Out, out, damn Press! During a surprise trip to Iraq to express the US's displeasure over Iraqi government plans to take a two month summer vacation (this is not holiday camp either!) Dick Cheney was overheard remarking to his staff "then we kick the press out." [WSJ]

  • Riding high in April, back down in May: The New York Post has reversed its recent price hike, from fifty cents back down to twenty-five, after reports that certain newsstand sales across the city had dropped by 20%. [Crain's]

  • New information on missing BBC reporter: A tape has been released by the Army of Islam, a small, "shadowy" group in Gaza, demanding the release of prisoners held in England in exchange for Alan Johnston, who was kidnapped in Gaza on March 12. Johnston does not appear on the tape, however it does show his BBC identity card. [NYT]

  • Holt to bolt down NBC week-ends: Lester Holt will be the new anchor of the week-end edition of NBC Nightly News, as well as continuing to host the week-end edition of Today. [TVNewser}

  • For those who like their news in English: Guardian Unlimited has overhauled its website. The new look includes wider pages and a "great use of pictures." Also, words like colour, honour, and grey. [Guardian]
