New Year's Day is a time of reflection, as resolutions for the New Year abound. A new year means new beginnings... a fresh start. We joyfully announce our good intentions to finally quit smoking, lose that pesky ten pounds, get organized, spend more quality time with loved ones, stop the mindless internet wanderings.

The first couple weeks of our new and improved self is stellar. But, as February rolls around, most of us have reverted back to our well-worn habits. Disappointment ensues. To add insult to injury, the voice in our head, known as the "inner critic," takes full advantage of the situation by bad mouthing us. The inner critic is ruthless. It judges, condemns and denigrates us. Hurling insults like... "Loser!" "I knew you couldn't do it." "You have no willpower!" "You are a failure!" Honestly, the rhetoric of our inner critic is alarming. Why do we tolerate such unkindness?

For a moment, imagine life without your inner critic. In this video, Eckhart Tolle explains how to say goodbye to the negative voice in your head.

Happy New Year!
