War on Women in Mississippi, Dolores Huerta Gets Honored

In 2011, voters in Mississippi voted against the personhood amendment, which would have classified a fertilized egg as a person, and consequently, would have effectively banned all abortions. This is in Mississippi, which as we all know is not considered a bastion of liberalism.  Even further, Mississippi Republican Governor Phil Bryant declared that the Democrats sole mission is to "abort children to kill children in the womb."  He campaigned on ending abortions and has followed through on his ill-conceived promise by signing a bill that makes it significantly more difficult for doctors to perform abortions in his state.  This is the kind of short-sighted thinking that has states like Alabama, Texas, and Georgia, proclaiming their unofficial state motto, "Thank God for Mississippi."  Governor Bryant has failed the women of his state and for that he gets a flying chancla

Un gran aplauso to President Obama for announcing that Dolores Huerta, the legendary civil rights and labor leader, will be receiving the Presidential Medal of Freedom along with 12 other outstanding individuals.  The Presidential Medal of Freedom is the highest civilian award one can receive in the United States.   Dolores is well deserving of this recognition for her tireless efforts for the rights of the trabajadores of this country.   Dolores Huerta and Cesar Chavez founded what came to be known as the United Farm Workers (UFW), winning collective bargaining rights for farmworkers.  Even at the young age of 82, Dolores Huerta continues to speak out for workers, women, and the LGBT community.  The Ladies Home Journal named Dolores as one of the 100 Most Important Women of the 20th Century. A movie based on the lives of Cesar Chavez and Dolores Huerta is currently in production starring Michael Pena as Chavez and Rosario Dawson as Huerta in the movie.  Diego Luna is the director and has titled the film, Chavez.  Orale Dolores y muchisimas gracias por todo!
