1. It is the 24th Anniversary of the National Lesbian and Gay Journalists Association (NLGJA) Convention and Career and Community Expo, the 10th LGBT Media Summit and it is in Chicago August 21st through 24th.

2. Jason Collins of the Brooklyn Nets, the first out male athlete in the major leagues will have a conversation with ESPN NBA editor Kevin Arnovitz about his experiences.

3. There is a welcome from President Barack Obama and Mayor Rahm Emanuel in the program.

5. The opening reception features a conversation with CNN anchor and host, Richard Quest interviewing Jess Cagle, editor of People and Entertainment Weekly.

7. The Michael Triplett Speakers Series debuts. Michael died in January 2013 and was the president of NLGJA.

8. Although the majority of attendees are gay, lesbian, bisexual or transgendered, anyone can join and attend and straight allies attend and are speakers.
