You know how some people you could talk to forever? Ultra athlete and vegan podcaster Rich Roll is like that for me. In the most recent episode of The Dinner Party with Elysabeth Alfano, Rich and I discuss the power that comes from making informed decisions every day about the food that is on our plates and how these decisions can be political statements that can change our health and our environment.

For certain, unless we make dramatic changes to what foods we are willing to purchase and ingest, we will have ever-increasing healthcare and environmental crises. As Rich explains, "Our system for feeding the planet is broken and unsustainable and is incredibly deleterious on our dwindling natural resources."

A vegan for 10 years, Rich claims that he has never felt better or recovered from extreme workouts faster than on a plant-based diet. Citing gorillas and rhinos as examples of large mammals that live just fine on plants, Rich says he gets enough protein by eating lower on the food chain; a completely vegan diet.

A wealth of knowledge, Rich divulges facts that the food industry maybe doesn't want us to know. For example, did you know that it takes 660 gallons of water to produce a 1/4 patty of beef? Me neither. In this podcast, Rich sheds light on just how much misinformation exists in the area of nutrition and the expense on our health and environment that comes from eating animal products.

I hope you enjoy this podcast with Rich Roll and feel empowered in knowing that the decisions we make about what we put on our plates can actually turn the situation around and that we are not powerless. We vote with our dollars and the decisions at the grocery store are profound and impactful. We can take back control of the information and products we are fed.
