I screened the documentary movie Mavis! lead singer of her family group, The Staple Singers. Here are 10 Things I learned:

1. She is 76 years old.

2. She won her first Grammy at 71.

3. She was born and raised in Chicago.

4. Sam Cooke, Mahalia Jackson, Lou Rawls, and Curtis Mayfield were her neighbors.

5. She always travels with her sister Yvonne.

6. "Pops" Staples first name is Roebuck.

7. She wrote "freedom songs" .

8. She performed at Newport Folk Festival in 1964 with Bob Dylan, Buffy St. Marie, and Joan Baez and again in 2014.

9. She was in The Last Waltz.

10. She performed with Prince in Paris on his Love Sexy Tour. He produced two unreleased albums for her during his contractual dispute with a recording label.
