  1. If the NFL Rulebook is ever choreographed and turned into a play, don't expect Calvin Johnson to stick around for the second act.

  • In the NFL it is still necessary for a receiver to carry the ball across the goal line in order for the play to count as a touchdown. Apparently, this is no longer the case in college football, which is instituting a new statistical category called "DeSeans".
  • The New York Giants got the better of the Carolina Panthers in the latest edition of the Steve Smith Bowl. Next up -- the Zach Miller Bowl (Oakland at Jacksonville) on December 12, followed by the Mike Williams Bowl (Seattle at Tampa Bay) on December 26.
  • Prior to the opening kickoff at some stadiums (stadia, if you're a Latin scholar) players demonstrated their support for the NFLPA by raising their index fingers. • The Philadelphia-area ASPCA is probably sending Kevin Kolb a lot of "Get Well Soon!" cards and packages this week.
  • After one game Arian Foster is on pace to rush for 42,735 yards, or so it seems. The Colts may want to try a different defensive game plan for their Week 8 rematch with the Texans.
  • Wade Phillips and Alex Barron may need to don disguises the next time they go out in public in Dallas.
  • If you're an NFL Head Coach and you think you might want to call a timeout at some point during the game, get down on the turf with your players during pregame stretching and do some exercises to loosen up your hamstrings so that you'll be prepared when the time comes.
