This '80s Pantene Hair Commercial Is Why We're So Darn Confident

The Ad That Changed Model And Actress Kelly LeBrock's Life

Growing up in the late '80s, there are a few pop cultural moments that define my childhood. From sitting too close to the TV to watch "The Cosby Show" to freaking out when I got my first pair of L.A. Gear sneakers, those were the days. But this Pantene commercial I recently stumbled upon gave me serious nostalgia.

Back in 1986, Pantene launched one of its most memorable advertising campaigns with model/actress Kelly LeBrock. Sporting big hair and full pink lips, the "Weird Science" star uttered the line "Don't hate me because I'm beautiful." I may not have had hair like LeBrock's, however, repeating those six words while looking in the mirror gave me the confidence to hold my head up high.

And as Allure uncovered, LeBrock nearly missed out on booking this beauty gig. She told the magazine, "I used to be so insecure and self-conscious that if anybody even looked at me, I'd go red." Luckily, the model went ahead and read the line for an audition, and the rest is now beauty history.

There's something to be said about the power of affirmations.
