3 Biggest Dream Killers and How to Overcome Them

Many of us find it challenging to follow our calling and share our gifts with the world. It might seem too overwhelming to step into the tough business world, or maybe despite your best efforts, your actions won't bring the results you want, and you feel stuck. Yet you still keep hoping that one day you can make your dream come true. At least, that's what I used to think. I was desperate to get out my office job, and follow my calling. Unfortunately, it seemed an impossible dream, everybody gave me an advice against it. Back then I lived in Barcelona, Spain, and the Spanish economy was in a deep crisis. Luckily, I can be stubborn sometimes, I didn't give up on my dream! I found a way that helped me to shift things around. All dreams are possible, but they won't come true if you are not taking action.

There are things that can kill your dream. I have listed below the three of the most common ones, and tips on how to overcome them.

Dream Killer #1 - Believing that it's IMPOSSIBLE
Impossible is a word that kills dreams before they are ever born. Many times we might hear that our dreams are impossible. People definitely have a right for their opinions, but it's your choice on what you believe. Be aware that people might subconsciously want to keep you on the common path because you are choosing to do something different and shine. They might need to look into their own lives because maybe they were once told that their dream was impossible.

What to do instead: As Motivational Speaker Les Brown says, "Sometimes we can't say I can do that, but what we can say is that it's possible, I can have my dream." Keep telling yourself that it's possible every day, and surround yourself with people who believe in you and your dream!

Dream Killer #2 - Self-Doubt
Are you focusing on your weaknesses and putting yourself down? It's easy to doubt yourself and feel that I'm nothing special. Negative self-talk generates negative energy. Even if you don't ever say out loud what you think about yourself, people can sense it on an energetic level. Therefore, the negative self-talk will keep your dreams out of reach, hence blocking your success.

What to do instead: Be aware of your thoughts and the language you use towards yourself. When you notice negativity, make a list of five things that you are grateful about yourself as this will help shift your energy to be more positive!

Dream Killer #3 - Fear of Failure
If you have a fear of failure, you will want to do everything to avoid it. This critical fear creates additional stress and creates a vicious cycle. If you are afraid to fail, it's hard to move forward. Wanting everything to be perfect you might minimize all the risks or end up paralyzed by fear. This makes it challenging to take a step forward, ending up stuck. Even if you would reach your dream, you might feel afraid of losing your success instead of enjoying it.

What to do instead: Create a crystal clear vision of what you want and how you want to feel when you achieve it. Focus on your vision, instead of creating negative scenarios. A good start is to accept that we all fail sometimes. How we relate to ourselves during those moments is crucial! You can choose to be loving in every situation. Failures are learning opportunities! Success is inevitable if you keep learning, growing, and believing in yourself.
