Spring is near and things are going to go green. Every March we see trees blooming with green leaves and grass growing. Some even drink green beer in celebration of St. Patrick’s Day. March is even good time for you turn your business green too by adopting and implementing sustainable and environmentally friendly business practices.

I am going green with my businesses and in my home because I want to save the environment and save green (money) while going green! Of course going green is more than saving water and sending more emails instead of printing. I want you to join me and go green too!

Lance Robertson, of www.rmg-eco.com shared a few easy ways to save both the environment and money:

Replace traditional high light bulbs and fixtures

The cheapest and quickest thing you can do is to change your high energy light bulbs to led lights. Next, if you have old fixtures, you should upgrade the equipment. Contact your local electricity company for grants, rebates, or physical assistance to help you to transition to energy-efficient equipment.

Reduce commutes

Do you have to go sit in the drive thru line at the bank to deposit a check? Use the mobile app.

For many, the car is their second home. Encourage public transportation usage or carpooling. Perhaps you could allow your employees to telecommute, work four 10 hour days instead of five 8-hour days.

Buy upcycled products

Look for “post-consumer waste” statements on various products such as paper towels, bathroom and kitchen supplies, printer ink, and even clothing.

Keep a green beauty routine (Yes, your beauty routine impacts business.)

Yes, green beauty is more than “skin deep”! Skin Deep Database is a great resource for finding non-toxic options for your personal routine. Most environmentally products cost the same or less than their toxic counterparts and are better for your beauty, health, and the environment.

Get an energy audit

According to the Department of Energy, sealing cracks and leaks in your home/business can cut up to 20% off the costs of your heating and cooling bills.

Many states will perform free energy audits, and will pay for some or all of the repairs! Do a simple Google or Bing search for free energy audit and the name of your state for sources.

By implementing the simple tips above you can save green (thousands of dollars off your bills and make yourself and business more eco-friendly. If you additional ways of saving green while going green please share below!
