With original architecture and artistic details, these hotels transport guests back to a bygone era.
Here are eight spectacular suites where time stands still.
HOTEL ALFONSO XIII, SEVILLE, SPAIN: THE ROYAL SUITE
The Andalusian-influenced Royal suite includes crystal chandeliers, architraves and wall tiles dating from 1928. Moorish arches, marble floors and soaring ceilings add to the grandeur. Sophia Loren, Brad Pitt, Prince Charles of Wales and Princess Diana have all stayed within its walls.
PALAZZO VICTORIA, VERONA, ITALY: MARCELLUS SUITE
The 2,640-square-foot Marcellus suite is a staggering space that includes four bedrooms and four Italian marble baths (Plácido Domingo and his family are frequent guests). Shown here is the suite's living room, which has a 14th-century wood-beam ceiling and frescoed walls.
IL SALVIATINO, FIESOLE, ITALY: AFFRESCO SUITE
The Affresco suite is replete with Renaissance beauty. The focal point of the room is the breathtaking frescoed ceiling, created by Domenico Bruschi in 1886. The suite also features two oil canvases by the Dutch artist Gabriel van der Leeuw.
JW MARRIOTT EL CONVENTO, CUSCO, PERU: IMPERIAL SUITE
The nearly 1,000-square-foot Imperial suite features an exposed colonial wall, built in 1532, that was once located at the main entrance of the convent. Floor-to-ceiling windows and an L-shaped terrace face southwest Cusco, offering southwest views of the city's Spanish-style rooftops, the dome of Qorikancha, and the Andes Mountains.
SONESTA KURA HULANDA VILLAGE AND SPA, WILLEMSTAD, CURAÇAO: INDIAN BRIDAL SUITE
The Indian Bridal suite affords the chance to sleep like royalty. The suite features handcrafted sterling-silver furniture, including a bed, night tables, chairs, and a dressing table that was once owned by the Maharaja of Jodhpur.
THE PENINSULA PARIS: THE HISTORIC SUITE
The 2,336-square-foot Historic suite pays homage to the hotel's storied past. Here, the dining room sits within a gazebo echoing a 19th-century winter garden. Its stunning stained-glass ceiling by Ateliers Duchemin was inspired by an Art Nouveau drawing.
TCHERASSI HOTEL AND SPA, CARTAGENA, COLOMBIA: MOUSSELINE SUITE
Housed in a colonial mansion in the old city of Cartagena, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, the Tcherassi Hotel and Spa was designed by famed Colombian fashion designer Silvia Tcherassi. The Mousseline suite showcases 17th-century stone and brick, and a wood-beamed ceiling.
THE GORING HOTEL, LONDON: ROYAL SUITE
Since its opening in 1910, the Edwardian-style Goring Hotel has been a favorite of royals for its five-star luxury experience and its proximity to Buckingham Palace (it's the closest hotel to the royal residence).The living room in the Royal suite is filled with historic treasures, including Georgian glassware and decanters, handwritten letters, and military regalia from the 1800s. The walls of the master bedroom are lined with the same Gainsborough silk that graced the first-class dining room of the RMS Titanic in 1912.
