1. The baggage you have at home that you thought you could outrun? I know you didn't purposefully pack it, but, trust me, its DEFINITELY coming with you, so hope you packed light.

2. You are going to miss your family and friends more than your independent self will ever want to admit. If you're not a total jerk to them, they'll miss you too. Call often.

3. You're not cooler or more special or important than your friends who have chosen to settle in their hometowns. Honestly, a lot of the time, you're going to be incredibly jealous of them.

4. Love is a universal language. He's not treating you horribly because he's from a different culture. He's treating you horribly because he's horrible (oh and when you do find the right guy, it won't be because he's foreign, though no one will hold it against you if it's still a plus...)

5. Managing your money by ignoring your bank account is a bad idea in any country, but especially in a foreign one.

6. You won't always feel like an outsider. One day you'll be muttering at tourists under your breath on your way to work like everyone else. Treasure those first moments before you find yourself jaded.

7. Sometimes, you just need to let yourself cry. Cry because you don't know how to register with the doctor, cry because you hate a popular dish that everyone keeps shoving down your throat (STOP WITH THE CHRISTMAS PUDDING ALREADY, IT IS DISGUSTING), cry because you don't know why you moved 4,000 miles away from everything you knew and feel incredibly stupid and alone.

8. I won't spoil the fun, but moving abroad is going to change your life in ways that you can't even possibly imagine right now. It is one of the smartest choices you've ever made, and at the end of the day, you will be so glad you did.

9. Seriously, I hope you packed light. Have you seen the prices for checking luggage these days?
