99-Year-Old Fitness Instructor Swears Brandy Keeps Her Young

Move it or lose it.

Imagine going to a fitness class taught by someone who’s nearly 100. For the dozens of eager students in 99-year-old Millie Solomon’s class, they wouldn’t have it any other way.

The London-area fitness instructor, who might be one of the UK’s oldest, teaches “chair aerobics” to fellow seniors twice a week and says the “use it or lose it” adage really is true.

“It’s very important for people my age to keep their bodies and minds active,” Solomon told a local paper.

And don’t let her diminutive stature fool you. Solomon’s granddaughter says she’s small but “fierce.”

Despite a hip operation 18 months ago, Solomon is still going strong, teaching others her age how to keep fit. The recipe for keeping herself young includes drinking a glass of brandy every day, she told The Daily Mirror. But she says it all balances out, adding that she makes sure to get five servings of fruits and vegetables a day, too.

Another important aspect of longevity is staying social, she said on the UK TV show This Morning.

“If I can still do it, why should I give up?” she says.

If that isn’t enough to inspire you to get moving, just think of Tao Porchon Lynch, the 90-something yoga instructor who’s probably more flexible than many a fraction of her age. (Lynch also loves a glass of wine.)

Cheers.
