Al Franken Fundraising Hits $1.98 Million For First Quarter Of Reelection Campaign

Sen. Al Franken (D-Minn.) raised $1.98 million in the first three months of 2013 for his first reelection campaign next year, according to a video released by the campaign.

Franken is running for the first time since defeating Republican incumbent Norm Coleman by the thinnest of margins in 2008, following a prolonged recount. So far, no GOP candidate has emerged to challenge him.

According to the video from the Franken campaign, the first-quarter haul was raised from 35,000 donors from every county in Minnesota. Those giving less than $100 accounted for 55 percent of the contributions, and online donors gave one-fourth of the total.

The campaign currently has a little more than $2 million cash on hand, up from the $1.2 million held in its accounts at the end of 2012.

That $1.98 million looks to be one of the highest quarterly totals reported so far by senators up for reelection in 2014. Sen. Mark Pryor (D-Ark.), a top target of Republicans, raised $1.9 million, and Sens. Mary Landrieu (D-La.) and Jeanne Shaheen (D-N.H.) raised $1.2 million each.
