In recent weeks racial disparities in America’s criminal justice system have been a reoccurring and controversial topic among news pundits. Among the many conversations is the ongoing debate between Fox News host Bill O’Reilly and civil rights activist-turned-MSNBC-host Al Sharpton.
During an airing of “The O'Reilly Factor” Monday, the O'Reilly host continued his verbal assault of Sharpton’s views, which he mocked as a "grievous industry".
“On Thursday we told you that Al Sharpton, now in business with a company that distributes garbage like Lil' Wayne, while Sharpton says he's concerned with the state of black culture, his upcoming book will be marketed by a company, Cash Money Content that debases this country,” he stated. “In response to my analysis, Sharpton took to the air and did what he usually does: He attacked the messenger implying that I am racist.”
As expected, Sharpton has once again responded to the 63-year-old, this time via an open letter, which he read on his MSNBC show, ,“Politics Nation.”
“These are difficult entrenched issues that requires seriousness and honesty. To Fox News host Bill O’Reilly, they’re just a punch line,” Sharpton declared. “'Grievous industry,’ that’s how Bill O’Reilly boils it down. The frustrations and the hopes of millions of people who feel that too often the legal system is stacked against them -- everything from racial profiling and police brutality, to unequal sentencing including death sentencing.”
“Since he’s so far off base I thought I take time tonight to offer this open letter to Bill O’Reilly. Maybe he’ll even learn something different.”
