Alabama Senator Shadrack McGill Says It's Unholy to Give Teachers Raises

Although it pains me to write this, a well-deserved aplauso is due to the New York Giants for winning the Super Bowl by defeating the New England Patritos 21-17.

Teachers are some of my favorite people in the entire world. I've been taught by some of the greatest maestras, and some of them have gone above and beyond their job duties. It's disappointing when elected officials attack teachers, and the latest culprit is Alabama State Sen. Shadrack McGill who argues that it's against a "biblical principle" to give teacher salary increases. I know religious zealots love to use the bible to hate on other groups, but I've never heard of using the bible to attack educators. However, the Alabama republican did not find a "biblical principle" to use against giving himself a raise which he voted in favor of in 2007. Funny how the bible can be used for self interests like that. I'm sending Sen. McGill a chanclaso for relying on faulty reasoning to keep teacher salaries low.

Aplausos

Earlier this week, a panel on the 9 Circuit Court of Appeals ruled in a 2-1 decision that Proposition 8, the 2008 ballot measure that ended marriage equality for same-sex couples in California, violated the US Constitution. Although it was a narrow ruling and it only applies to California, the fight for marriage equality continues to move forward. The notion of putting the civil rights of a minority before voters has never sat well with me. That's why we have state legislatures and courts to protect the rights of the minority. I'm sending a big aplauso to the two judges who rightfully found Prop 8 unconstitutional.

Although it pains me to write this, a well-deserved aplauso is due to the New York Giants for winning the Super Bowl by defeating the New England Patritos 21-17. The New York Giants, winners of the NFC East Division, defeated the Atlanta Falcons, the heavily favored Green Bay Packers in Green Bay and the San Francisco 49ers to reach the Super Bowl. It's the 2 Super Bowl Eli Manning has won with the Giants. --Sergio Lopez
