Amy Adams Nabs New New Role

Amy Adams, has signed on to Paul Thomas Anderson's untitled film project that tells a veiled, cautionary tale about the beginning of Scientology. Deadline reports that she will film the movie before she starts up work on "Man of Steel," the Superman reboot in which she'll play Lois Lane.

Adams will play the wife of Phillip Seymour Hoffman's character, a Navy veteran who begins a religion in the 1950's -- just like Scientology founder L. Ron Hubbard. Joaquin Phoenix will play Freddie, Hoffman's protege who begins to question the religion and his mentor as the movement grows.

Just yesterday, Variety reported that David Warshofsky and "Friday Night Lights" star Jesse Plemmons were joining the cast, as well.

Before she wades into the religious arena, though, Adams will next be seen in a much lighter film: Jason Segel's reboot of The Muppets, in which she plays his love interest.
