David Bowie's ex-wife will remain a contestant on the British reality TV show, "Celebrity Big Brother," despite his tragic death, the show announced.

Angie Bowie, who as part of the show is cut off from the outside world, was informed about her ex-husband's death off-camera Monday, the program said in a statement.

"The decision to remain in the House is entirely her choice, and she has been given the option to leave at any time if she changes her mind. Appropriate support will be available to Angie at any time if needed," the statement read in part.

The couple, who married in 1970 and divorced in 1980, had one son together, filmmaker Duncan Jones.

According to Angie's bio on the TV program's website, the couple hadn't seen each other in some time.

When asked about the last time she saw David, she answered, perhaps with some exaggeration, "Forty years ago? I go to great lengths to avoid him. Did you think I was going to be polite, to be nice, so that people like me?"

Jones confirmed the news of his father's death in a statement posted to his Twitter account just after midnight on Monday. In it, he shared a black-and-white photo of what appears to be him and his father shortly after his birth.

"Very sorry and sad to say it's true. I'll be offline for a while. Love to all," he tweeted.
