Antonin Scalia's Cause Of Death Undetermined (UPDATED)

The Supreme Court justice was found dead Saturday after a hunting trip in West Texas.

Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia died Saturday of causes that have not been officially determined, said Presidio County Judge Cinderela Guevara, the top official in the county where he was found.

Guevara said she misspoke when she previously told local TV station WFAA that Scalia died of a heart attack.

Scalia, 79, was on a hunting trip with friends at a West Texas resort. Housekeepers reportedly found the justice dead in his room after he failed to show up to breakfast.

Guevara told WFAA that authorities were initially unable to locate a justice of the peace to pronounce Scalia dead. Guevara did so over the phone at 1:52 p.m. on Saturday.

“After I did my job, yes, I kept playing it over and over in my mind and thought, ‘Oh my God. History is being made in Presidio County,” Guevara said. “It’s something I’ll never forget.”

This article initially reported Guevara's statement that Scalia died of a heart attack. It has been updated to indicate she misspoke.
