Avril Lavigne Discusses Her Battle With Lyme Disease

The #Pray4Avril hashtag trended on Twitter back in December when fans heard Avril Lavigne was dealing with an undisclosed health issue. Now, the singer is opening up about her battle with Lyme disease in the recent issue of People magazine.

After months of feeling lethargic and lightheaded, Lavigne learned she had severe Lyme disease, which she believes was from a tick bite last spring. She was bedridden for five months and, although she is "80 percent better" now, it was a rough road.

"I felt like I couldn't breathe, I couldn't talk and I couldn't move. I thought I was dying," she told People. "There were definitely times I couldn't shower for a full week because I could barely stand. It felt like having all your life sucked out of you."

The 30-year-old singer revealed she had health problems in December when a fan direct messaged her asking if she was working on a new studio album. Rumors circulated that was she pregnant or in rehab.

On Wednesday, "Real Housewives of Beverly Hills" star Yolanda Foster, who is also struggling with Lyme disease, reached out to Lavigne to offer her support.

Lyme disease is a bacterial illness carried by ticks that affects the skin, joints and nervous system. It can be treated with antibiotics.
