The Best And Worst Bake Sale Goods, In (Totally Subjective) Order

Not all bake sale goods are created equal.

Remember bake sales? Those awesome fundraisers at school where you, or your parents, would bake something delicious, and bring it in to the cafeteria or the gym to sell for a good cause? Could anything be better? Now that the school year is back in full swing, we're feeling extra nostalgic for the good 'ol days. Let's face it. Bake sales were the highlight of many a sports game for some of us.

There was always the danger, however, of that crushing moment when you reached the front of the line and your dream dessert was gone. The kid in front of you -- or even worse, his mom -- bought one too many brownies, and didn't leave anything but a measly stack of oatmeal raisin cookies for the rest of the crowd. It was an early lesson in the power of expectation. At next season's bake sale you either got in line early, found a way to cut the line, or kept expectations low so that you were pleasantly surprised when you landed an M&M cookie.

The hard truth is, while bake sales are generally awesome, not all bake sale goods are created equal. Here's a list of the best and worst bake sale goods in order.

12
Munchkins® (LOSER)
Someone always buys Munchkins® from Dunkin' and thinks that counts. Come on, guys. You can't bring something store-bought to a bake sale. You just can't. Least of all Munchkins®.

Popcorn

No one wants popcorn at a bake sale. It's like getting popcorn when you're trick-or-treating: DISAPPOINTING.

That's not baking.

Blondies

Great in theory, but almost always dry and tasteless. We love a good blondie, but when's the last time you actually had a good blondie?
7
M&M Cookies
They always look so much more exciting than they taste. When you get a bite without an M&M, it's basically game over.
6
Snickerdoodles
It might be simple, but it packs a punch in the bake sale line up. We'll take a snickerdoodle any time.
5
Cupcakes

Before cupcakes were a trend, they were the star of the bake sale table. We're not talking about the fancy kind, with a mountain of buttercream frosting and an exorbitant price tag; we're talking about the simple, classic kind that makes us feel like kids again.
4
Rice Krispies Treats
Does anything say "bake sale" more than a Rice Krispies Treat? Bake sales shouldn't be allowed unless these crunchy, gooey squares are present. Period.
3
Chocolate Chip Cookies
Chocolate chip cookies come pretty close to first place in the bake sale pecking order. They're classic, comforting and travel easily, which means you can eat one at the bake sale and bring a bunch home. No judgement for finishing them in the car.
2
Peanut Butter Blossoms
Oh yeahhhhh. Peanut butter blossoms have that winning combination of peanut butter and chocolate, which is essentially the power couple of food pairings. The Hershey's kiss planted in the middle of a soft, peanut butter cookie is just a brilliant idea.
1
Brownies (WINNER)
Brownies -- with a soft, fudgy inside and a shiny, crisp top, sprinkled with a dusting of powdered sugar -- can't be beat. They are the king, queen and entire royal family of the bake sale kingdom. They're hard to screw up (except if you add nuts. Sorry, no nuts allowed.) and heavenly when made well. We'll take the whole tray, please.
