Balloon Boy Parents Get Balloon Back After Agreeing To Pay Restitution

After $36,000 in restitution, a 90-day jail sentence, and 10 weekends of community service, the Heene family is finally getting its balloon back.

The Heenes staged a hoax in October of 2009 in which they pretended their 6-year-old son, Falcon, was trapped in a wayward mylar balloon. After the balloon crash-landed without Falcon on-board, authorities began an exhaustive search operation before it was revealed that the boy was hiding in the family garage the whole time. The Heenes later admitted that the event was a hoax perpetrated with the intent of securing a reality television show contract.

On Thursday, the Larimer County Sheriff's office returned the balloon, but not before Richard Heene measured the balloon to make sure that the balloon was in fact his.
