Obama Chose MLB Playoffs Over Democratic Presidential Debate

President Barack Obama missed parts of Tuesday's Democratic presidential debate because he wanted to watch sports instead.

"The Democratic debate was taking place at the same time as some ballgames," Obama said at a news conference Friday. "So there was a little bit of clicking back and forth.”

It's possible, of course, that he was entranced by the Arkansas State-South Alabama football game that took place Tuesday night. But more likely, he was watching the MLB playoffs. The Chicago Cubs, who Obama has said he is rooting for despite his White Sox fandom, clinched a National League Divisional Series win over the St. Louis Cardinals that evening. The Dodgers and Mets played too.

Obama said Friday that he was "very impressed" by all of the Democratic candidates' performance during the parts of the debate he did watch, but he wouldn't weigh in on whether Vice President Joe Biden should enter the race.

"I think you can direct those questions to my very able vice president," he said.
