BART Fire Shuts Down Service Between San Francisco And The East Bay

BART Fire Shuts Down Train Service

In what can only be described as a commuter's worst nightmare, BART has suspended service between San Francisco and the East Bay Thursday morning after a fire near the West Oakland station damaged electrical equipment.

According to BART officials, there is no estimate as to when the service will be restored, but it will most certainly occur after the morning commute is over. Trains from San Francisco to the Peninsula and throughout the East Bay are still running.

Authorities have suggested alternate means of transportation to cross the Bay, including the Transbay bus service or the Alameda ferry.

Traffic conditions on the Bay Bridge Thursday morning could only be described as grim. Click here for a detailed map.

Good luck out there, kids.

Update: As of 4 p.m. Thursday, service has been restored.
