It's election day, and if you work for a news organization, you're expected to go out on the street and talk to voters about how they're feeling, and who they voted for and all that. Ideally, you get a cross-section of people: some conservatives, some liberals, and, if you're lucky, some wacko separatist-libertarian types, too (because, let's face it, they're fun to watch).
The problem is, in this election in New York City, there isn't a huge amount of political disagreement. I'd be hard-pressed to name a friend--or even a friend of my parents'--who's ever even considered voting for Paladino.
So I decided to take the subway to Bay Ridge, Brooklyn, because it's known to be slightly less liberal than the rest of the city. Bay Ridge is nearly 70% White, according to the Department of City Planning census data. In 2009, nearly 30% of the population was on income support. The median household income was just over $28,000 a year, and 22% of families were below the poverty level in 2000. Yes, 2000 was a decade ago, but given the current economic climate, those statistics couldn't have improved much.
Many of the voters I came across this morning were dissatisfied with things, but not for the reasons you'd expect. Watch the video to hear what they had to say:
