Senators Can't Even With The Relentless Bombshells, Anymore

Same, guys, same.

What a week in Washington.

The relentless pace of earthshattering news over the past few days appears to have taken a toll on the nation’s top lawmakers, some of whom were photographed moseying around outside the Capitol Thursday morning as if recovering from a three-day bender in Las Vegas, wondering what the hell just happened last night.

Well, OK ― Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.), Sen. Ben Sasse (R-Neb.) and Sen. Tom Cotton (R-Ark.) may have been chit-chatting outside the Senate gym before the start of another work day. But it would be hard to blame them for enjoying a break and contemplation over, “Dear God, how did we get here,” after the seemingly unending stream of bombshell reports concerning President Donald Trump and the investigation into Russia’s alleged interference in last year’s presidential election.

The photo even surprised Sasse, who was sporting workout clothing.

“Holy moly,” he tweeted. “It looks like @SenSchumer and I are smoking reefer outside a wedding.”

Matt House, a spokesman for Schumer, also weighed in on the frumpled appearance of his boss.

“That’s Schumer’s standard gym outfit,” he quipped on Twitter.

The senators probably won’t get much of a break Thursday ― already, more news over Russia and former national security adviser Michael Flynn is threatening to upend their schedule. But hey, at least it’s nearly the weekend.

Here’s some more photos of Thursday’s gathering, including Sens. John McCain (R-Ariz.) and John Cornyn (R-Texas).
