Bernard Cardenas, Alleged Serial Burglar, Arrested By Houston Police With 3-Year-Old Son In Car

Alleged Serial Burglar Busted With Son In The Car

Police in Texas say a man suspected of more than a dozen burglaries brought his 3-year-old son along for his latest job.

Houston authorities on Wednesday announced the arrest of Bernard Cardenas, who they say confessed to burglarizing 14 homes in the region since July of last year.

"He’s a prolific burglar," said Houston Police Department senior officer Alfonso Yantis, according to NewsFix. "The district attorney is working hard. We're hoping that he doesn't get out soon. The district attorney's office has indicated to us that they're going to try to work a plea agreement with him."

On Oct. 18, police busted the 34-year-old as he allegedly kicked in the front door of an east Houston home while his son waited in the car. The boy was unharmed, KWTX reports.

A gun recovered during the arrest was reported stolen a few days earlier, the Associated Press reports.

Authorities also found additional items reported stolen earlier that day inside Cardenas' vehicle, Chron.com reports.

Cardenas is charged with five counts of burglary of a habitation and felony possession of a weapon.
