Though Beth Stern's relationship with provocative radio show host Howard Stern has stayed strong for over 15 years, the couple did not initially have blessings from everyone in their life. During an interview on HuffPost Live, Stern shared her mother's first reaction to her famous new boyfriend.
"It was Mother's Day, 15 years ago," Stern recalled. "I called my mother and I said, 'I met my guy. I met the guy I'm going to spend the rest of my life with. It's interesting, he's in the public eye. You're going to get a kick out of who he is.'"
After guessing that Beth was dating celebrities like Brad Pitt and Mel Gibson, Stern's mother was not pleased to discover who her future son-in-law actually was. "I said, 'No, Howard Stern' and she gasped. And she hung up the phone and she didn't talk to me for two weeks."
She continued, "she knew his persona, and what he did on the radio. How, he's a crazy man, and she didn't like that. So, then we flew her to New York and she quickly fell madly in love with him."
HuffPost Live host Ricky Camilleri asked Stern how her husband of five years eventually won over her mother. "Just being Howard. He's just a big softy. He's the most generous, kind, compassionate man that my mother has ever met."
