Human Body Discovered In South Side Train Coal Car

Unidentified human remains were found Sunday at a coal plant on the Far South Side of Chicago.

The discovery was made when a coal car -- filled in Big Horn County, Montana earlier this month -- was being emptied into a larger hopper at the KCBX terminal located on the 3200 block of East 100th Street Sunday, the Chicago Sun-Times reports.

The last thing that fell out of the coal car, reportedly, were the human remains. While the body was determined to be male, as of Monday afternoon, other details of his identity and cause of death remain mysteries as medical examiners await the results of an autopsy and fingerprint analysis. Officials have also not yet been able to determine the man's race or approximate age, according to the Sun-Times.

Investigators suspect that the man was possibly homeless and could have been attempting to hop a ride on the train, the Chicago Tribune reports.
