Team Ethiopia dominates the Bolder Boulder again, taking first place in the team challenge for the fifth year in a row and Ethiopian Belete Assefa winning the men’s elite race on Monday.
Assefa is a first-time competitor in the traditional Memorial Day race and finished the 10K in 29 minutes, 22.56 seconds. He is the third consecutive men’s winner from Ethiopia and was followed by Solomon Gonfa, Assefa’s teammate, and Kenyan Allan Kiprono finished third, according to the Daily Camera.
According to the Denver Post, Team Ethiopia finished with three racers in the top nine (at first, second and ninth places) winning by a single point over Team Kenya, also finishing with three racers in the top nine (at third, fourth and sixth places) making for a men’s team race finish that was the closest in the 12 years of the international team competition.
James Carney, finishing in fifth place with a time of 30 minutes, 16.15 seconds lead Team USA to a third place finish, with teammates Ryan Hall finishing at seventh and Aaron Braun at twelfth place, according to the Daily Camera.
According to 9News, the Boulder Boulder hosted 55,000 runners - it features runners, walkers and wheelchair racers of all ages and is is the single largest timed race in the U.S. and the fifth largest road race in the world.
