Bones Found At River North Construction Site Possibly Human

Workers Find Bones At River North Construction Site

A building contractor working at a River North construction site Wednesday found bones that may be human remains, authorities said.

Crews renovating a 19th century building on the 100 block of West Kinzie St. found a skeleton as they dug out the basement around 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, NBC Chicago reports.

Work at the site is on hold, pending an examination by the Cook County Medical Examiner to determine if the bones are human remains, the Medical Examiner's office told ABC Chicago. An autopsy is scheduled for Thursday.

The building at 149 West Kinzie previously housed an antique furniture and art store, according to NBC.
