Benching Brett Favre: Brad Childress, Minnesota Vikings Head Coach, Leaning Toward Not Starting Favre: Report

Minnesota Vikings coach Brad Childress is reportedly leaning toward benching Brett Favre for backup quarterback Tavaris Jackson in Sunday's game against the New England Patriots, according to the Minneapolis Star-Tribune.

"By Brett being older -- even though he's started 291 games straight -- you kind of want to make sure you're ready just in case," Jackson reportedly said. "He's said it before, your body is going to give [out] some time. I'm just going to make sure I'm prepared and ready."

After losing to the Green Bay Packers 28-24 on Sunday night, it was reported that the 41-year-old has a stress fracture in his left ankle and his NFL-record streak at 291 consecutive games started could be in jeopardy.

On Thursday, Favre did not rule himself out of Sunday's game, despite missing two straight days of practice.

During the post-game press conference after the loss to the Packers, Childress ripped Favre for throwing three costly interceptions. He has thrown 10 interceptions during Minnesota's 2-4 start.
