'Buckwild': Shain Gandee's Death Halts Season 2 Production

'Buckwild' Production Shut Down

"Buckwild" production has been shut down in the wake of series star Shain Gandee's death. MTV confirmed to The Huffington Post that filming on Season 2 has been suspended and that no other decision regarding the show's fate has been made.

“We are shocked and saddened by the terrible news about Shain Gandee, and those involved in this tragic incident," the network said in a statement. "We are waiting for more information but at this time, our main concern is for the Gandee family and their friends. Our thoughts and prayers are with them. Shain had a magnetic personality, with a passion for life that touched everyone he met and we will miss him dearly."

The Kanawha County Sheriff's Department in West Virginia reported Shain missing the morning of Monday, April 1. Authorities later confirmed the 21-year-old was found dead in a truck with two others.

MTV's "Buckwild" follows nine young adults in West Virginia and was thought of as "Jersey Shore" meets "Here Comes Honey Boo Boo." The network recently renewed the reality series for Season 2 after strong ratings in its debut season.
