Burning Body Found: Logan Square Trash Can Site Of Grisly Discovery

Firefighters made a grisly discovery Tuesday night when they found a man dead inside a burning trash can in Chicago's Logan Square neighborhood.

The man's body was found in an alley in the 3100 block of North Central Park Ave. around 9 p.m. Tuesday night, the Chicago Tribune reports. The man was identified only as an adult male that had been "burned beyond recognition."

Police have opened a death investigation in the matter and an investigator from the Cook County Medical Examiner's office was sent to the scene, according to a Sun-Times report.

Violence in Chicago has attracted national headlines this year as homicides have been up citywide over last year, though the rate of gun violence has slowed in recent months. The city recently reported its second lowest number of October homicides in 30 years -- 36, down eight killings from 2011, but still two more than 2004's total, the Tribune reports.
