Byran Johnson Catch: James Monroe High Receiver Makes Awesome One-Handed Grab (VIDEO)

High School Receiver Makes Absurd One-Handed Catch

That it inspired this enthusiastic bit of play calling, might be enough to make this snag in a high school game one of the "plays of the year." But make no mistake, it would still be jaw-dropping with any soundtrack.

Byran Johnson of James Monroe High School made a candidate for "catch of the year" during the Virginia Group AA, Division III state title game against Brookville on Saturday.

Facing a 3rd and 22 in the fourth quarter, James Monroe quarterback Jay Scroggins stepped up in the pocket and delivered a bullet down the middle as he took a huge hit. The ball appeared to be thrown high but Johnson leaped up and reeled it in with his right hand for a 37-yard gain.

"Oh my goodness! You cannot make that catch. That is not a catch that you can make. Byran Johnson! Just close the book on the highlight reel!" screamed the elated announcer.

Unfortunately for Johnson, James Monroe couldn't snag a victory, as Brookville held on to win 24-14.
