Camp Lejeune Marine Shot And Killed By Another Guard

Marine Killed By Other Marine On Guard Duty

A Marine was shot and killed while standing guard at a North Carolina base by another guard on Tuesday evening.

Around 5:30 p.m., an unidentified Marine at the gates to Camp Lejeune "discharged an M4 rifle, killing another Marine guard," according to a Marine Corps statement.

"The Base Provost Marshal has stated the incident is being considered neither as an act of terrorism nor an active shooter event at this time," the statement reads.

Officials are withholding the victim's name until next of kin are notified.

The Naval Criminal Investigative Service is looking into the killing.

The shooter is being questioned, the camp's spokesman told TV station WCTI, and officials are trying to determine if it was accidental or deliberate.
