As the 2012-2013 TV season kicks into gear it's time to ponder which show will be canceled first.
Will it be CBS's "Partners"? The series debuted softly with 6.6 million viewers tuning in and a 2.4 rating in the 18-49 demographic. OK numbers, but not by CBS standards. Consider "How to Be a Gentleman," last season's new comedy from CBS. The show premiered to an audience of about 9 million people and had a 2.7 rating. However, it was quickly shuffled off to Saturdays where it was bested by "Two and a Half Men" reruns before being yanked completely.
Two NBC comedies are currently moving closer to the bubble. "Animal Practice" debuted after the closing ceremonies of the 2012 Olympics to almost 13 million viewers. A few weeks later, it had 5.2 million viewers in its regular timeslot debut. Decent numbers for NBC, but the 18-49 rating for its timeslot debut on Wed., Sept. 26 was a 1.4. That doesn't bode well. Meanwhile, "Guys With Kids" had 6.3 million viewers and a 2.2 rating for its September 12 premiere. The September 26 episode had 4.8 million viewers and a 1.6 rating on the 26th.
Perhaps the show most poised for cancellation is Fox's "The Mob Doctor." The drama series premiered on September 17 with just over 5 million viewers and a 1.5 rating. In its second outing, "The Mob Doctor" dropped to 3.9 million viewers and a 1.3 rating. Fox's "Ben & Kate" debuted to mixed reviews and decent numbers, 4.2 million and a 2.1 rating. "Ben & Kate" was released online weeks in advance of its premiere, so its real ratings test will be in the coming weeks.
And then there's "The Neighbors." Perhaps the most critically-panned new series of the 2012-2013 season, ABC wisely premiered "The Neighbors" after the "Modern Family" Season 4 debut. The series premiere had 9.3 million viewers and a 3.3 rating in the demo. According to EW, "Modern Family" was seen by 14.2 million and had a 5.5 rating and the premiere went a minute over, likely pumping "The Neighbors" numbers. The show about alien neighbors moves to its timeslot home, Wednesdays at 8:30 p.m., on October 3.
