Terminally Ill Dad Shares One Final Dance With His Daughters

Kelvin Peters will not get a chance to walk his three daughters down the aisle, let alone dance with them on their wedding days.

The 46-year-old was recently diagnosed with terminal cancer and told he only has months to live. "I went through a period where I was mad, I was saying, 'Why me?' I've got my whole life. I want to live. I want to live and be here for my family. I want to do all of these things and my first thought is all of the things I'm going to miss out on," Kelvin told KTVB news in Idaho.

His daughter, 21-year-old Kaitlin Peters, shared the same sentiment.

"I went to a wedding and broke down when the bride had a dance with her father," Kaitlin said. "So I just thought that maybe I could pull something together, for my little sisters and I."

That's when Kaitlin decided to reach out to local vendors and throw a faux-wedding where she and her two sisters -- 15-year-old Kendle and 13-year-old Isabella -- could create memories they won't be afforded in the future.

"I know that I have a limited amount of time, and so I'm taking advantage of that," Kelvin said of his daughter's idea.

Luckily, Kaitlin didn't have to do it alone. Thanks to Idaho Event Professionals, the wedding dresses, the venue, the photographer and the decorations were all donated.

"We cannot express our gratitude enough," said Nate Peters, Kelvin's son. "We are so thankful and so blessed, even in a time of trial to have so many people that are willing and able to help us."

When the moment finally came for Kaitlin to dance with her dad, tears streamed down her face. "I don't think that brides should take this moment for granted," she said. "I think that it should be something that should be cherished."
