In Florida last week, lawmakers from both the state's House of Representatives and Senate chambers agreed to pass legislation that will allow restricted access to marijuana with high percentages of Cannabidiol (CBD) in order to treat unremitting epileptic seizures and a few other debilitating disorders.
The aforementioned legislation, Senate Bill 1030, successfully traversed the House chambers on Thursday by a wide margin of 111-7, followed by the Senate's decision to pass the bill by a vote of 30-9 on Friday.
This wasn't the first time the state's Senate examined said legislation. The bill first arrived in their chambers back in April and was voted in favor of then via a vote of 36-3, but they needed to approve amendments that were made in the House before casting Friday's vote.
Legislators in the House of Representatives had changed Senate Bill 1030 to permit use of CBD-rich marijuana for individuals suffering with cancer and Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS), branded as Lou Gehrig's Disease.
Now that the bill has fruitfully negotiated the legislative gauntlet of scrutiny, it moves over to Governor Rick Scott's desk where he has vowed to use his pen-wielding hand to officially sign the bill into law, which will add Florida to the growing pile of states with some form of legalization of marijuana for medicinal dedications.
