Of the features homebuyers look for most in a home, it appears as if quiet neighbors comes out on top, according to a survey conducted by real estate website Redfin. But what about neighbors who are, eternally quiet? It turns out to be a rising trend in real estate.
In their analysis of home sales across the U.S., Redfin realtors discovered that while homes near cemeteries take longer to sell, they actually sell for more than homes in the same cities that are farther away from these inherently quiet sites.
On average, homes closest to cemeteries sold for $162 dollars per square foot, whereas the homes located more than 500 yards away sold for $145 per square foot, Redfin found.
The survey, which analyzed data from 90 U.S. Census MSAs (Metro and Micro Areas) across the country between January 2012 through September 2013, revealed that some of the nation’s oldest cities topped the list of places with the most homes for sale near cemeteries.
