Watching “Friends” so many years after it was on air will seriously raise your eyebrows — the show has almost no cast members of color, as well as moments of blatant homophobia, transphobia and body-shaming. But yesterday, I was pleasantly surprised by something I noticed in the now-infamous scene after Ross's wedding when Monica and Chandler begin their relationship.
It dawned on me, 18 years after the episode originally aired, that this particular moment between Chandler and Monica is one of pop culture’s best representations of verbal consent:
Boom! Consent. Could it be any easier?
