Charlie Hebdo Cartoonist Reminds The World That 'Lovers Of Death' Never Succeed

"Lovers of death, if God exists, he hated you. And you have already lost, both on earth and in heaven."

After a series of terrorist attacks in Paris left more than a 100 people dead, a Charlie Hebdo cartoonist is reminding the world of the strength and grace that Parisians display in the wake of unspeakable tragedy.

"For centuries lovers of death have tried to make us lose life's flavor," cartoonist Joann Sfar wrote in a picture on his Instagram page. "They never succeed."

In another post, Sfar says French citizens don't need prayer and religion, but Champagne and joy.

Another picture, translated by The Independent, speaks directly to terrorists: "Lovers of death, if God exists, he hated you. And you have already lost, both on earth and in heaven."

Charlie Hebdo is all too familiar with senseless violence. Up until Friday, the January incident when gunmen stormed into the offices of the satirical newspaper had been the deadliest terrorist attack in France in two decades.

In another drawing by Sfar, a ship sits in the sea, a banner underneath displaying the French motto "It is beaten by the waves but does not sink."

Above the banner, the caption reads simply: "It means fuck death."

Ne sombre pas.
