Emeril Lagasse Talks Sacrifices Along The Tough Road To Becoming A Restauranteur

The One Sacrifice Emeril Lagasse Wishes He Never Had To Make

Celebrity chef Emeril Lagasse owns eateries across the United States, has penned a number of cookbooks and is known for his trademark catchphrase, but his road to success didn’t come without some serious sacrifices.

In an interview with HuffPost Live on Wednesday, Lagasse sat alongside his “On The Menu” co-host Ty Pennington and discussed the downside of his life as a restaurateur -- namely, the grueling schedule.

“It’s one of those jobs that when people are off, you’re not,” Lagasse told host Nancy Redd. “When people have holidays, you don’t.”

Although Lagasse deemed the sacrifices necessary, there is one particular holiday he wishes he could have spent away from work.

“How many times would I have loved to have celebrated with my mom for Mother’s Day, which happens to be one of the busiest days in the restaurant business,” he said. “[It’s] probably one of the scariest days to go out in the restaurant because it’s just so busy, but that’s the kind of sacrifices that you have to make.”

Pennington echoed his sentiments and put it bluntly.

“I’ll tell you what you have to give up: your time and your life,” Pennington said.
