National Park Service Revises 2012 Cherry Blossom Prediction

Cherry Blossom Prediction Is Revised, Again

WASHINGTON -- If you had plans to catch the cherry blossoms at peak bloom, you might want to revise your plans. Again.

The National Park Service has revised its estimate for when D.C.'s famous cherry blossoms will start to show off their pink and white floral showcase.

Expect the trees to start blossoming on March 18 with a peak bloom between March 20 and March 23.

Typically, D.C. cherry blossoms are at their peak closer to April 1. But the warm weather and this week's unusually warm temperatures have confused the trees' timing.

The National Cherry Blossom Festival, which is celebrating the centennial of Japan's gift of the trees to the United States, kicks off on March 20.
